Q: How does ACCUZYME compare with other enzymes?
A: ACCUZYME is substrate non-specific - meaning it has the ability to
debride all types of non-viable proteins (fibrin, collagen,
nucleoproteins etc.) - versus being substrate specific, thus having the
ability to debride only certain types of non-viable matter such as
collagen.
Q: What pH range is optimal for ACCUZYME activity?
A: ACCUZYME is active in a broad wound pH of 3 to 12. Other commercially
available enzyme debriding preparations have pH ranges in which the
enzymes optimal range is narrower. According to published information,
higher or lower pH
ranges will decrease the enzymes activity and appropriate precautions
should be taken.
Q: How often should ACCUZYME dressings be changed?
A: ACCUZYME should be changed daily or may be changed twice daily.
Q: How soon will I begin to see results with ACCUZYME?
A: The effects of ACCUZYME are usually observable within a few days,
depending upon the type of wound and the type of necrosis present.
Q: Other enzymes claim to be specific to the type of substrate they will digest. What substrate will ACCUZYME digest?
A: ACCUZYME is substrate non-specific. This means ACCUZYME will digest all
non-viable substrates found in necrosis rather than simply one or two.

Q: Will ACCUZYME harm viable tissue?
A: ACCUZYME DOES NOT HARM VIABLE TISSUE. Sensitization studies performed
on healthy volunteers show ACCUZYME to be harmless to viable tissue.
Q: Does ACCUZYME require the use of a topical antibiotic in infected necrotic wounds?
A: No. ACCUZYME is capable of, and indicated for, digesting necrotic
tissue in the presence of infection.
Q: How should the wound be cleansed prior to application of ACCUZYME?
A: AllClenz™ Wound Cleanser has been shown to be an ACCUZYME-compatible
surfactant wound cleansing agent for removing debris from the wound
bed. Normal saline would be a suitable alternative. Avoid cleansing with hydrogen peroxide solution as it may inactivate the papain.
Q: What cover dressing should be used with ACCUZYME?
A: ACCUZYME should be covered with an appropriate dressing of choice. We
recommend placing a moistened gauze dressing topped with a dry gauze
dressing over the wound following the application of ACCUZYME.
